The Motorola CP185 includes a monochrome display, so your channels can be named to help cut down on employee confusion. There are 5 dealer programmable buttons that can be set to features such as: backlight ON/OFF toggle, keypad lock, power level, monitor, volume set, and more.
The CP185 radio has a max power output of 4 watts (UHF) and 5 watts (VHF) which exhausts the standard Li-Ion battery PMNN4476 in ~11 hours. There is an optional high-capacity CP185 battery, the PMNN4080, which bumps the average operating time up to ~16 hours.
Motorola CP185 range
|Flat open terrain||
UHF 3-4 miles
VHF 4-6 miles
UHF 1-3 miles
VHF 1-3 miles
UHF 0.5-2 miles
VHF 0.5-1 mile
UHF 17-25 floors
VHF 10-15 floors
These are averages based on the Motorola CP185 radio using standard accessories at full power. There are many factors that affect two-way radio range, and it is always best to test before you invest.
If your company is worried about coverage, you can increase the Motorola CP185 range by substituting the standard stubby UHF antenna with the PMAE4016 whip antenna. This will give you a ~25% range bump on average. Simply add an order note at checkout requesting the $0 swap, or call in to have a member of our team assist you.
Consider upgrading to a digital radio for more coverage
If you still need additional range, we suggest looking at a Motorola digital radio. Some great digital alternatives are the: Motorola CP100D, Motorola CP200D, Motorola SL300, and Motorola XPR 3300e radios.
Migrating from analog radio transmission to digital gives you a ~20% range bump as well as ~40% battery life bump, and static free communications. Radio Depot can always program your existing CP185 radios to work with any of the previous listed digital radios on select analog channels.
